Hello, Word Hive-Mind.I have to number paragraphs in this manner:Original Section Title1.1 When the Romans conquered Carthage.1.2 When they conquered Britain.New section title2.1 The Ottoman Empire faced pressure.2.2 The 13th Century was the turning point.HOWEVER, the Section titles themselves aren't numbered, or a number list. I've figured out how to make a number list format that goes 1.1, 1.2, etc. And I've even got a way to make the paragraphs number as 1.1, 1.2, and then 2.1, 2.2 IF they are part ofa multilevel list and the section title ahead of them is likewise a number-list, such as I, II, III, IV, V.BUT my format that I have to comply with does not allow numbering on the section title.
Meanwhile, if I set a number list format as 1.1, 1.2, etc, it doesn't allow me to 'restart number list' or 'set start value' manually to the next section at 2.1, 2.2,etc.Does anybody have a method to get what I need?Thanks.ddc. In addition to following the procedure in Shauna's article for which Charles has given you the link, for the numbering assigned to Level 1Heading 1 in the Define new Multilevel list dialog, click on Font. And set the font to be Hidden. Also, set theText indent to 0 and from the Follow number with dropdown, select Nothing.Under FileOptionsDisplay, you will need to uncheck the box for Hidden text to prevent the number assigned to Heading 1 from appearing.
